What are the freight trains?

Freight trains are a new addition to Farm Town - they are used to bring you high demand products from outside markets to use in your facilities.

How do I use the trains?

First you must purchase the Standard Freight Locomotive, the Enhanced Freight Locomotive, the Supreme Freight Locomotive, the Ultimate Freight Locomotive or the Turbo Freight Locomotive from the trains section of the store.
 - Standard Freight Locomotive
 - Enhanced Freight Locomotive
 - Supreme Freight Locomotive
 - Ultimate Freight Locomotive
 - Turbo Freight Locomotive
*** Note: The Enhanced Locomotive is a faster locomotive that visits all the markets in only 6 days. The Supreme Freight Locomotive is faster again, visits all markets in 5 days. Now the Ultimate Freight Locomotive is faster yet again, will visit all markets in 4 days. Or maybe the Turbo Freight Locomotive visits in 3 days! You can now have 10 trains dispatched at any given time, two with Standard Locomotives, two with new Enhanced Locomotives, two with Supreme Freight Locomotives, two with Ultimate Freight Locomotives, and two with Turbo Freight Locomotives. ***

*** Note 2: For the second set of freight engines they must be purchased in order.

Then you must purchase train cars - Cost 35 Farmcash Each

To prepare your train for dispatch you need to have at least one Long Freight Car coupled to the Freight Locomotive. Place the Long Freight Car right behind the Locomotive without any space between them. If you mouse over the Locomotive, All Freight Cars (including short and long cars) correctly coupled together will be highlighted. As image below shows.

To manage your train click the Locomotive and select 'Show Train Details'. The Long Freight Cars that are correctly coupled to your Locomotive will be highlighted in white. The ones that you don't own or that are not correctly coupled will appear disabled. Image below shows a correctly coupled freight car, and 2 that aren't owned.

To dispatch your train click the 'Dispatch Train' button. Only the Freight Cars correctly coupled to your train will be dispatched to carry goods.

Once you dispatch a train it will be locked and will appear semi-transparent in your farm until it returns. The Standard Freight Locomotive completes the trip across all markets in 7 days.

There is now a preference option to disable the transparency of the trains. Goto the game preferences and uncheck 'Transparent Dispatched Train'

How do i collect produce delivered by the trains?

A: To check the progress of your train click on the 'Train Status' tab.

You'll see how many units are being carried and how many are pending to load. The progress bar indicates the progress of the train across all the markets.

As soon as the train visits all the markets and returns to your farm, you can click the 'Unload Train' button to move all products to your Storage. At this point your train will be fully visible again so you can add or remove cars for the next dispatch.

What does the Boost Train! button do?

The boost button allows your neighbors to accelerate your train to help speed up it's delivery. First open up the train status tab.

Then Click the Boost Train! button at the top left.

This works a little differently than the facilities requests in that you send out direct invites rather than wall posts. They will show up in the My Requests tab above the game.

The benefits for the train boost are as follows.

  • Each friend will advance your train 2 hours
  • The advance that your train receive in one trip from all your friends combined can not exceed a full 24 hour day
  • The benefits that friends receive by advancing your train will be between 1% and 3% of all the products being carried by the train
Can i have more than 1 train or car?

Yes, you may have 2 of each train, making 10 trains in total. Note that you can't have 2 of the same engine on the same farm.

You may have 1 Long Boxcar of each type per train, if you purchase another of the same Long Boxcars, it will have to be coupled to the other train. Meaning you can have a total of 5 of each boxcar so long as they are on different trains. Any additional Long Boxcars would serve only as decorations and will not carry any products.

How does the train help with facility work?

The Mayor will work 50% of your neighbors facilities for free. Each train car you have on your dispatched train will increase the amount worked by the Mayor by 5%, If you own 10 cars, then the Mayor will work ALL facilities for you.

If you have 2 or more trains dispatched with 10 freight cars on each train the Mayor will complete all farms for you without you needing to navigate to each farm. If you do not meet this requirement then the Mayor will still help you with 25 - 40% of the workable farms only when there are at least 3 workable farms.

How do i get my train to go round a corner?

You can get your train to go round a corner by using one of the cars that has 6 views, place that car ON the corner, and the long cars attached to either end, as the image shows below... You may have to experiment a little in placing the cars so as all the cars are on the tracks, but it can be done

Make sure ALL the cars highlight by mousing over the engine.

Note: There are 2 horizontal and 2 vertical decorative short cars, make sure you use the correct car depending on which way the train is turning, if one doesn't work, try the other one
